Floating Thoughts...: Television Johnson vs... →
stwhite:
Ok, in my English class today we discussed this article by Steven Johnson and the retort by Dana Stevens. Johnson argued that watching television makes you smarter…this pretty much goes against what I have always heard. So, it sparked my interest. I agree to an extent that complex plot lines and…
I feel this is relevant to my blog, since it is about a college class and what one...

Well, today has been quite a day. Monday always feels like the first day after having surgery. One wakes up groggy and a bit catatonic. You realize that it is the first day of classes, yet the weekend is in a fog. I have found that a shower wakes me up in the morning. I also have learned my lesson about early classes. If you are a morning person, congratulations, this doesn’t apply to...

Apartment
Currently, I am technically homeless. I have a room, I pay rent, I have everything I need and live in an apartment, but I have no lease, and I am not registered as living anywhere. This is a college magic trick. Here is the secret to living in a terribly nice apartment and being able to afford all that you need (and a minuscule amount of what you want): share. Yes, find an apartment that rents per room (or that rents per person, hence the magic of one person, two inhabitants) and share a room. Very simple in theory, but a little tricky to carry out. There can only be one name on the lease for said room, and only one check for the rent. The names on both pieces of paper should match. This means a trusted friend. I chose Sophia, mentioned previously. This is my first pearl of wisdom on saving money in college (which is terribly important as many before me have found) but the beauty of this is, it's easy and can be done by the laziest of us. I have found most money savers require effort, which is far stretched in the academic world, this takes transferring money once in a while to an account or paying with only 50% of your actual money. You may never find this anywhere else, because it is illegal. Illegality is prominent on the internet, but I enjoy pretending I am unique (another prevalent happening in the college environment). Now, my followers, I must study, something still new to me. I shall try to write again in the near future.

Introduction
So, I have decided to start a tumblr account about college. A blog about stupid things I notice day to day in a college atmosphere (financial aid.. know what I mean?) what my friends and I bitch about (stupid classes) and many other things. I will also try to chronicle college life from semester to semester, year to year, and undergrad school to (hopefully) grad school. You may have to bear with me, because I tend to feel more pushed to write when I procrastinate (a very prominent, and deadly, trait in college) or when I'm flustered. But I plan to write some of the good parts about college as well. This is my mission statement, which I plan to adhere to as much as possible. From academia to parties, I will chronicle my life and the lives of those surrounding me. This should help all others going through college, about to start college, and allow those who have left college behind them to reminisce fondly. I will make this a habit and perhaps a hobby. If anyone would like a special article on something in particular I will do my best to add what I know about it here.
Perhaps a little about myself should be added here. I am a sophomore at UNC Greensboro. I am majoring (at this moment) in either psychology or international studies. I love writing (not necessarily papers for class!) this will be my first blog, and first non fiction venture. I live in an apartment with four friends, one being my best friend from the time we were 2, Sophia, two bunnies, and sometimes Sophia's mutt named Murray as well as the boyfriends of the other girls. I, myself am single and am able to observe the relationships at a great vantage. All of my roommates are completely different. Sophia is majoring in sign language, Jessica (another roommate and mine from freshman year) is a psychology major and hardcore about it, Amanda is pre-med, and Brittainy is an art major. We all lead differnt lives but work quite well together as a group. The boyfrieds are all eclectic and I shall speak more of them in later posts. By the by, my name is Ashley and I shall be your tour director on this journey through college life.
